The Sandgate Community Centre nurtures a sense of belonging and community and offers access to a broad range of services particularly to people who are in crisis:

  • Personal support / crisis response / advocacy
  • Counselling
  • Phones, fax, photocopying
  • Computers and internet
  • Open friendly spaces to connect with peers
  • Beverages and community kitchen facilities
  • Toilets, shower and laundry facilities
  • Weekly community lunch
  • Christmas day lunch
  • Information and referral to relevant services
  • Regular agency visits eg. Housing, training, employment
  • Support groups
  • Volunteering opportunities

Some of the challenges faced by people who use the services outlined above  may include:

  • Homelessness and housing related needs
  • Mental ill health recovery support
  • Disability support needs
  • Social isolation
  • Domestic and family violence
  • Financial and legal

SANDBAG staff aim to assist people to identify personal strengths and restore dignity through a non-judgemental approach.
